RR Safety Serious Business

Sadly, Texas is the leader in railroad related accidents:
  • #1 in Collisions
  • #3 in Fatalities
We can all help support safe and secure rails.

First, make sure you know the basics of RR Crossings.

Here is a quick refresher on safety at RR crossings. It is targeted for teens and is a good overview:

Second, watch for violators and report them

Jumping trains, and walking on/near tracks is dangerous.

If live in central Texas, and you see someone walking on the train tracks, or jumping a train, call the police. (The phone number 1-888-UPRRCOP (877-7267), but several readers have reported that the number does not work.)

If you see someone jumping a train, try to get the number off the lead engine, and the number off a car close to where you saw the person jumping on/off. The UP folks will stop the train, and check for any unwanted guests.
